Scholarship Description

The Lynn Buerki Memorial scholarship is intended to encourage qualified students to increase their interest in agricultural conservation, to obtain technical competence in some phase of agricultural conservation, and to pursue a career in this area of endeavor. Applicants for the scholarship must reside in or have parents/grandparents who own land in Sedgwick County, Kansas, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); and be enrolled/plan to enroll as a full-time student in an agricultural or natural resource conservation-related curriculum such as agronomy, range management, forestry, geography, agricultural journalism, agriculture education, conservation science, or wildlife management. Other areas of study related to soil and water conservation also qualify. Home-schooled students in Sedgwick County, Kansas are also eligible.

An official transcript of high school or college grades must be submitted with the application. The application must contain two letters of recommendation to be eligible. One recommendation needs to come from a teacher or professor, the other from a person in the community. Neither can be a relative. The letters must each be submitted in sealed envelopes. A decision will be made by April 1st and the students will be notified either way. Once notified of being selected, the applicant will need to submit a copy of their college letter of acceptance to the Sedgwick County Conservation District office.
